Course Outlines: Women's Health
The Full Course, written by Melissa Assilem, RS Hom, FBIH, consists of three modules covering conception to Menopause and beyond.
Pregnancy and Childbirth
Module I covers conception to post-partum and consists of 5 written sections with an audiotape.
Melissa Assilem is the personal tutor. There are 5 test papers and a final examination.
Eligibility
There are no pre-requisites except a basic knowledge of homeopathy; an Introductory Course on two Video tapes is available from the Institute. Naturally, this module of the Woman’s Health Studies will be of particular benefit to registered midwives.
Syllabus
Clearing the way for a healthy pregnancy, sustaining the pregnancy.
Second and Third Trimester: Varicosity; Constipation; Backache/Ligament Pain; Pre-eclampsia; Eclampsia Emergencies; False and Premature Labour; Breech Presentation.
Birthing the Baby: Preparing for Labour; Prevention of Caesarean; Prevention of Episiotomy; Basic Birthing Kit; Midwives’ / Practitioners’ Kit; Phases of Labour and what to expect; Following a woman’s natural rhythms.
Post-Partum: Early Bonding; Delivering the Placenta; Post-Partum Hemorrhage; Preventing infection; Episiotomy First Aid; Dealing with Grief; Breast Feeding / Lactation Problems; Post-Partum Depression; Subinvolution of Uterus; Renewing of Sexual Activity; Renewal of Cycles.
The Newborn: Asphyxiation; Birth Trauma; Paediatric Case-Taking; Retained Urine; Vomiting; Failure to Thrive; Colic; Eye Problems; Circumcision; Birth Defects; Vaccination.
Award
A Certificate in Women’s Health is awarded on the successful completion of the course.
Women’s Health Full Course - Modules I, II, and III
The full course is by home study and consists of 15 written sections including the Pregnancy and Childbirth section, with audio tapes. The approximate duration of study is 12 months. There are 5 test papers and a final exam in Module I leading to a certificate in Women’s Health (Midwives). Ten additional test papers and the final exam complete the Diploma in Women’s Health and Homeopathy, DWH Hom. This course is of specially benefit for Nurses and Midwives, but also for General Practitioners, and Practitioners of other Natural Health Therapies.

Award
Successful completion is awarded with the Diploma in Women’s Health and Homeopathy DWH Hom.
