Course Outlines: Clinical Nutrition
The British Institute recognizes the fundamental role of nutrition in health. Nutrition is relevant to conventional medicine and all complementary medicines. It is interwoven in every page of medical progress. We are, therefore, proud of our home study course for nutritionists; the Diploma in Clinical Nutrition, entitling the use of the letters DCN. The course has been created in collaboration with The American Council of Applied Clinical Nutrition who will provide certification to all students successfully completing the course as Fellows of The American Council of Applied Clinical Nutrition permitting the use of the letters FACACN. Recognition as a Registered Nutritional Consultant, RNC, by the International Organization of Nutritional Consultants, IONC, (formerly Registered Nutritional Consultants Organization of Canada), is currently being developed.
This course provides in depth understanding of Nutritional Bio-Chemistry and the role and practice of Nutritional Therapy for Practitioners of all Health Care Therapies.
Graduates are also eligible for application for the Fellowship of The British Institute, FBIH (see page 20 )
Eligibility
Secondary education and a commitment to treating others with accuracy and understanding.
The course consists of 10 modules and an introductory audiotape.
There are course work assignments in the form of 7 test papers, a Midterm Examination, and a Final Examination. All examinations are taken in the student's own home. (see ‘Examinations’ page 6)
An expert personal tutor is assigned to each student for the duration of the course who will assist the student in achieving whatever goal he or she sets for its completion.
Duration of study is calculated at approximately 12 months.

Module I Nutritional biochemistry I.
Protoplasm and Tissues; Chemical Components of Carbohydrates and Lipids.
Module II Nutritional biochemistry II
Proteins and alpha Amino Acids, their Occurrence and Function.
Module III Nutritional biochemistry III.
Biochemistry of Digestion and Production of Digestive Enzymes; Clinical endocrinology; Nutrient Components of Endocrine Hormones.
Module V Nutritional biochemistry IV.
Nutrients of Life; The Oil-soluble Vitamins; Metabolic Pathways.
Module VI Nutritional biochemistry VI
The Water soluble and Water dispersible Minerals; the Macro Minerals and Micro Minerals.
Nutritional Laboratory Diagnosis VIII - IX
The significance of specific Laboratory Tests as Biological Barometers for determining the presence of clinical and sub-clinical Nutritional deficiency states; Interpretation of contemporary Laboratory Tests; Specific Nutritional deficiencies which appear to be intimately related to certain abnormal laboratory values; Specific laboratory panels.
Biochemic Tissue Salts: Dr. Schussler's biochemic theory; Twelve existing biochemic remedies; Twelve new biochemic remedies: Brief course review.
Award
Successful students are awarded a Diploma of The British Institute of Homeopathy and are entitled to use the initials DCN. |
