Course Outlines: Animal Health Diploma
Lesson 1
You will read a brief history on kibble, the contents found therein and also how to read a pet food label and effectively understand what is inside the package. You will see ingredients that are often found in commercial dog and cat diets and the dangers of sugar and salt.
Lesson 2
You will study about the classification of dogs along with a written description of the digestive tract. You will be able to effectively understand how a canine digests food and how they can eliminate bacteria.
Lesson 3
This lesson is dedicated to the essential vitamins and minerals of the urban carnivore. It explains some of the necessary substances that must be present in the diet.
Lesson 4
In this lesson the main focus is on amino acids. You will learn the difference between essential amino acids and non essential amino acids. You will also learn about essential fatty acids and the role they play in the canine diet.
Lesson 5
You will learn how to feed for life stages. The difference between a puppy's needs and a lactating mothers needs. You will also learn how to feed senior dogs and how to wean a puppy onto a whole and healthy diet.
Lesson 6
The main focus is on determining energy needs. You will learn a few different ways to calculate how much food your dog should eat in one day based on breed, energy level and workability. You will also learn some different breeds and what size category they fall into.
Lesson 7
Food sources of vitamins and minerals are examined in this lesson. You will learn the vitamin and mineral content of some vegetables and fruits. You will also gain knowledge of different protein sources and how they can be fed.
Lesson 8
Remember the pet food recall? We'll look at what happened there and how to avoid it. You will also learn how to feed for cancer.
Lesson 9
This is part one of learning how to feed a species appropriate diet. You will learn what it is, some pros and cons, safe food handling practices, storage, how to switch your pet's diet and more.
Lesson 10
The second part of feeding a species appropriate diet teaches you how to get access to your pet foods as well as various preparing methods, batch feeding, remembering iodine in the feline and canine diets and also some recipe ideas.
