Hello Everyone,
I just received a letter and Newsletter today from the Transitional Council of the College of Homeopaths of Ontario.
After reading it, I felt I should share an important portion of it.
After reading this email, if you wish further details or have any questions, please contact them directly.
The website is www.collegeofhomeopaths.on.ca
Email address is info@collegeofhomeopaths.on.ca
Toll Free # is 877.883.8083
Without using each and every word, in the letter it says:
One of the most common questions coming from practicing homeopaths is the use of the "Doctor" title.
No person shall use the title "doctor", a variation or abbreviation or an equivalent in another language in the course of providing or offering to provide, in Ontario, health care to individuals. The title "Doctor" is restricted to only those who are registered with the College of Chiropractors of Ontario, the College of Optometrists of Ontario, the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario, the College of Psychologists of Ontario, or the Royal College of Dental Surgeons of Ontario. Once in full force, the Homeopathy Act, 2007, section 7(1) restricts the title of "homeopath" to one who is registered with the College of Homeopaths of Onterio. There is no abbreviation to this term. The commonly used "H.D." can no longer be used for risk of confusing the public and puts those who do in contravention with RHPA. Doing so is an offence which is liable to a fine of not more than $25,000 for the first time offence and not more than $50,000 for second and subsequent offences.
This comes as no surprise to me. As I have told many of you, this was bound to happen once regulation got started. I told you that it was up to you to make the choice of using the HD or not but now I strongly suggest you remove it from your business cards, flyers, websites and any other promotional materials you may have circulating.
Please pass this message on to anyone you feel may benefit from it.
Thank you,
Liz
